Lemons and Life

Life is in phases and both success and failure comes with different phases in life. Sometimes everything seems to be going so wrong. Maybe it’s your health condition, or you loose your job, a loved ones health issue , or a divorce situation, it’s school season and you cannot pay for children’s fees, it might even be about getting funds to renew your house rent and your account is in negative. Let me tell you something. Never allow any of these situations suggest to you that the creator of the world is angry with you or has left you. Failure and challenges are a part of life and Life itself is watching and hoping you will turn the Lemon it throws at you to lemonade .

I worked as a Pastor for several years after college with a faith based organization with headquarters based in Nigeria. When I decided to resign my appointment, many people said I was going to go down and go broke because I had absolutely no experience with the corporate world, no business acumen, no investment to fall back on. All odds were against me. I was broke, clueless and for most times confused. I felt like I was going down everyday. House rent was coming at me, children’s school fees and all bills choking me. I was going down and I could literally feel it. However I knew it was not a spiritual problem , I didn’t need anyone’s prayer. It’s simple logic . The market place of the world pays you money based on the product you offer or the skill you bring to the table. If you have neither then you go hungry. It’s not the devil, it’s the market place

I decided to do some odd jobs in the morning, drive taxi in the evening and spend the night learning skills that the market place wouldn’t be able to resist . Some days were bright other days were dull and gloomy. But no matter how bright or gloomy the day was, I still get up at night to learn these skills and study till morning sometimes. I know many are surprised because Facebook pictures make all of us look like all things are bright and beautiful.

These challenges almost make us feel like God is not with us but that’s not true. Life’s challenges are normal in the journey of life. Some are caused by our wrong choices and we just bump into some others on our journey. Many times we are tempted to look for the short cut out. Please stay on course, keep advancing, take up odd jobs if you have to and don’t be ashamed. There is dignity in labor. Don’t take short cut and destroy the surname your father preserved so much and handed over to you ( A good name is Priceless). “when one is walking on a road and something falls off from your hand, you will stop, bend down and pick it up again”. That is success and integrity defined in one line

When I was done learning the first skill and I appeared at the market place, the market gave me a good proposal, I named my price and the market offered a deal. Then I went into my closet again to learn another high level skill, I named a much higher price and guess what, the market offered another deal. I am in the closet again and guess what anything is possible.
